"Italian Group of Fracture (IGF)" is a cultural association concerned in:

  • spreading and promoting works and researches about fracture phenomena, even forming workgroups;

  • promoting all the activities concerning the development of materials and structure testing standards;

  • cooperating with foreign associations with the same intents (International Congress on Fracture, ICF; European Structural Integrity Society, ESIS; etc.)

  • organizing meetings (at least, every 2 years), workshops, conferences, debates and courses about fracture phenomena and publishing meetings proceedings, news, journal etc.

IGF Journal

Since 2007, Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale (Fracture and Structural Integrity; ISSN 1971-8993) is the main publishing activity of the Gruppo Italiano Frattura.

Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale encompasses the broad topic of structural integrity, which is based on the mechanics of fatigue and fracture and is concerned with the reliability and effectiveness of structural components. The aim of the Journal is to promote works and researches on fracture phenomena, as well as the development of new materials and new standards for structural integrity assessment. The Journal is interdisciplinary and accepts contributions from engineers, metallurgists, materials scientists, physicists, chemists, and mathematicians.

More details:

- The Journal is financially supported by the Italian Group of Fracture (IGF) and by crowdfunding. It is completely free of charge both for readers and for authors. Neither processing charges nor submission charges are required.

- Papers can be published only after a preliminary plagiarism/autoplagiarism check and a blind peer-review process (two reviewers, at least). More than one reviewing rounds are possible.

- The Journal is well indexed (e.g., Scopus, since 2012, and WoS, since 2015).

- All the papers are published with their Visual Abstracts (2 minutes max videos with the "cores" of the papers). All the Visual Abstracts are available both in a dedicated YouTube channel and in an "on demand" page (LINK). All the issues are also published in a browsable version (LINK).

Open Access and its advantages

All the papers published by Gruppo Italiano Frattura in Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale are Open Access under the Creative Commons Attribution License 4.0 (LINK). Under this license, authors retain ownership of the copyright for their content, and anyone can copy, distribute, or reuse these articles as long as the author and original source are properly cited. Open access apprach allows to:

  • increase citation and usage, maximising the research impact;

  • obtain a greater pubulic engagement, with all the global researchers that can access the content freely;

  • stimulate a wider collaboration;

  • obtain a faster impact.

Abstract and indexing

Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale is indexed by all top databases (LINK), including Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar etc. Gruppo Italiano Frattura also joined the The Initiative for Open Abstracts (I4OA).

Papers promotion

Papers published in Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale are widely promoted via email alerts, newsletter, social media. In addition, since October 2018, all the papers are published with a Visual Abstract, a short presentation (2 minutes max) with the "core" of the published paper. All the papers are open to the discussion of the commuity with a dedicated comments section.

Multi-media

In addition to the Visual abstracts, IGF journal also publishes videos and animation embedded in the papers.
